Keeping Your Roof Cool during Summer

Light Colorado Roofing
The roof is the main part of your house that absorbs heat from the sun and transfers to the rest of the space below. Thus, you have to turn on the air conditioning and watch the electricity bill going higher up month by month.

However, there are ways in which you can keep your roof cool during summer and save money on A/C and ventilation:

1. Create Shade with Trees
Trees are not just beautiful; they also provide shade and keep your roof cool. You can have the best of both worlds by planting fruit tree or walnut trees. This last type of tree is famous for the very cool shade it provides.

However, make sure that the trees are not planted too close to the house. As they grow taller, their branches can extend over the roof and fall down on it during major storms causing damage.

2. Paint Your Roof in Light Colors
Light colors, especially white, are known for deflecting sunrays. Dark colors do the opposite – attract the rays and absorb their heat. This is the reason why in tropical areas you see houses painted in white and with light colored roofs.

3. Make Sure the Attic is Properly Ventilated and Insulated
Ventilation and insulation installed by roof repair Algonquin roofers are essential for keeping your roof cool, no matter what materials it is made of. The attic can become a greenhouse, accumulating heat and transferring it to the rest of the house if it doe not have proper insulation and functional vents that allow air to pass through.
