Summer storms can bring lots of precipitation, which may
cause roof leaks. What should you do if a torrential rain allows water to find
its way into your living room?
Your main priority is controlling the indoor damage to the
best of your abilities. Move away things that are not wet yet. If furniture or
other large objects cannot be moved, cover them with plastic wrap to protect
them from water. Collect water dropping from the roof in a container placed on
a solid surface.
The next step is to check the roof and identify the problem
that caused the leak.
Make sure the pluvial system is clean of debris and allows
water to flow from the roof and be drained away from the walls and foundation
of the house. Inspect the cover materials. Make sure that all the parts are well
covered with shingles/ tiles etc. and
that the water barrier is not at all exposed.
Remember that the point of entry of
water into the living space is not necessarily directly under the roof problem
that caused it. You should also check the roof from inside the attic, as this
perspective may give you a better indication of how water penetrated the roof structure. The best place to start is to find Barrington roofers with experience.
