While looking at your house, you often notice just the big
parts, such as the roof, the walls, and the windows. But there are some smaller
parts, integrated into the roof, just as essentials as the bigger ones.
Two of such important roof components are the soffit and the
fascia. But why are these so important for your roof?
The fascia is built on the edge of the roof and runs
vertically behind the rain gutter. Usually, it comes from the roof and goes
down about 6 inches. This part of your roof is visible enough and it can be
made from wood, aluminum or vinyl. Being the longest along the lowest edge of
the roof, the fascia is very important because, basically, it is a support
line. It sustains the gutters and the lowest row of shingles and tiles, holding
them together.
The soffit goes hand in hand with the fascia, running
horizontally from the bottom of it, overhanging underneath the roof. You can
paint it in a different color than the siding if you want to point it out.
The soffit is an important element for your roof structure
because it helps it to be well ventilated, by keeping a proper airflow in the
attic and by releasing the heat during summer. Many of the roof repair Algonquin area roofers will inspect the soffits and fascia when doing repairs to the roof.
