Roofing Maintenance Checklist for October

Barrington Roofers Autumn Checklist

Roofing maintenance and adequate repair action is essential for preserving your roof in good condition as well as for preparing the roof for the next season. Fall, especially the month of October, when the weather is no longer hot, but the first frost is hopefully at least a couple of weeks away, is the best period for fall roof maintenance by Barrington roofers – here is what you should do:

-          Clean and inspect the roof surface for faults – summer comes not only with bright sunshine and hot weather. It is also a period of frequent storms and winds that deposit debris on roofs. When the weather becomes calmer in October, it is time for cleaning and inspecting the roof for damage. Make sure to inspect every inch of the roof for cracks, buckling or curling shingles, shingles that no longer have the weatherproofing surface granules and other such faults and remedy them all before the first snow;

-          Inspect and repair flashing stripes – the stripes used for reinforcing sensitive roof areas, such as roof valleys and the areas around chimneys also need to be thoroughly checked and replaced if damaged;

-          Clean and inspect the gutters, too – your gutters will have to work hard during the upcoming rainy and snowy period, so you need to clean them, de-clog them and check them to find and remedy any faults, such as cracks or sagging sections.
