What is a concrete roof tile?

The materials that concrete roof tiles are made of may vary slightly, from manufacturer to manufacturer, but basically they consist in cement, water and sand or other aggregates. Most of them are standard weight, but there are also light weight models, which are not so durable, but suitable for buildings with a rather fragile structural resistance.  The best Chicago roofing products to use are concrete roof tiles as they hold up in just about every climate.

Concrete tiles are currently the most popular roofing material, due to the good balance between price and the provided quality. They are more affected  by moisture than other materials, and this is why  they require a proper underlayment, as well as a functional flashing system. Properly installed and maintained, a concrete roof will last about 30 years.

The new generations of concrete tiles simulate very well the appearance of other materials like wood, clay or stone; they have various textures, with edges that range from uniform to ragged. They come in different colors, but the color fades over the years and, although broken tiles are easy to identify and repair/ replace, it will become quite difficult to find perfectly matching shades. They also provide good resistance to elements and are class A fire rated.

A concrete roof should be inspected regularly and cleaned from debris accumulation and moss/algae growth.
