How to Maintain Your Flat Roof in Summer

Maintenance of A Flat Roof
Flat roofs are roofs with a slope of less than 5 degrees. A perfectly functional flat roof must have waterproofing properties that prevent water penetration into the interior structure and inside the house; it must be resistant to corrosion, chemical and biological agents, UV radiation and weather conditions.

Flat roofs require regular checks and maintenance work byCrystal Lake roofing professionals. These are usually done twice a year, before and after the seasons with the most severe weather phenomena, but any season is suitable for a simple visual inspection.

Summer can sometimes bring rain and storms, which requires visual inspection of the roof to make sure everything is in order.

Here are the aspects to be kept under observation

  • THE ROOF COVER

Dirt and debris increase the corrosion risk, not to mention the fact that a dirty roof is also unsightly. Keep it clean! Summer is the best time to perform roof cleaning operations.

  • THE ROOF ACCESSORIES

Damaged or missing accessories can cause leaks, degradation or corrosion.

  • THE PROTECTIVE COAT (PAINT)

Corroded edges, uneven color, scuffs, cracks or local scratches are signs that the protective layer needs to be repaired.

  •   THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Gutters should be cleaned periodically. Trapped and blocked debris may cause ponding water and infiltrations. Remove any possible risk of a clogged drain with a jet of water and wash the whole drainage system if necessary. Repair any defects that you notice.
